It seems hard to believe that it's April already and move-out is just around the corner. The team in Housing and Residence Life shares a lot of important detail about the move-out process with residents through email and their My Housing portal, but you can help make sure your student understands a few critical things.

We have re-established our best practices of thorough inspection and optimized key management. This means that your resident should anticipate an inspection with their RA in either early April (for those in apartments), or during finals week (for those in traditional halls). They should also plan to hand their key to a staff member when they leave, at which point all of their belongings should be removed from their assignment.

Residents should be aware of their deadline to check out. This is the last possible time they can turn in their key without incurring a late fee. For most students, the deadline is 24 hours after their last final or noon on Friday, May 5, at the latest. Those graduating will have until noon on Sunday, May 7. If your student needs an extension, they can request one on the My Housing portal under the checkout deadline module. Please note that if they are approved to stay, there is a $50 fee assessed for each additional night.

The process for move-out is more than just inspection and fees. Your student will receive information about borrowing bins, cleaning checklists, storage options, donating items they no longer need, and more this week and for the rest of the semester. You can find more on the move-out page or by visiting the Housing Help Desk.
